WHAT IS A TRADE MARK?
Trade Mark means any sign used to distinguish goods or services of different organizations or individuals.
Signs eligible for being registered as Trade Marks must be visible ones in the form of letters, numerals, words, pictures, images, including three-dimensional images or their combinations, presented in one or several given colors.
IS IT COMPULSORY TO REGISTER A TRADE MARK?
It is not compulsory to register a Trade Mark. However, the registration of the Trade Mark gives the owner the exclusive legal rights to use, sell, or license their Trade Mark and prevent others from using or exploiting the mark in any way.
HOW LONG IS TERM OF PROTECTION FOR A REGISTERED TRADE MARK?
The period of protection for a registered Trade Mark is Ten (10) years from the date of filling. This may be renewed for another Ten (10) years subject to the payment of the renewal fee.
IS THE REGISTERED TRADEMARK PROTECTED WORLDWIDE?
A Trade Mark registered with BruIPO is only protected within Brunei Darussalam.
